Gorham, Maine is a university town with a population of approximately 16,000 year-round residents, ten miles west of Portland, Maine's largest city. The community values education and has a strong tradition of supporting the public schools. An elected Town Council of seven members governs the Town and a Town Manager serves as the chief operating officer. An elected School Committee of seven members governs the Schools and the Superintendent serves as the chief operating officer.
The School system is a member of the Sebago Educational Alliance and has long enjoyed a cooperative relationship to advance teaching & learning with the University of Southern Maine and St. Joseph's College.
